The Newbury Boston, witnessed.

The Newbury Boston wedding film and photography at One Newbury Street, made by a team that knows how the second-floor tall windows hold the light off the Boston Public Garden and how the evening moves from Arlington Street to the ballroom.

You step out of the front doors at the corner of Newbury and Arlington Streets, cross into the Boston Public Garden under the trees, and look back at the limestone facade watching over the park. That quiet walk between the garden and the second-floor ballrooms is the moment we watch for every time we work here as The Newbury Boston wedding videographers and photographers.

To have your The Newbury Boston wedding filmed is to be filmed inside a 1927 Back Bay landmark overlooking the Public Garden, where two connected ballrooms, historic cobalt-blue chandeliers, and food and beverage by Major Food Group come together under one roof. We offer Boston wedding films and Boston wedding photography here, separately or together.

The Newbury Boston is one of the Back Bay venues we know well from behind the camera. We have photographed and filmed weddings here and know how the light, the rooms, and the neighborhood move through a wedding day.

The Space at The Newbury Boston: Public Garden Light, Historic Rooms, and What the Building Demands

A 1927 landmark at One Newbury Street

The hotel at One Newbury Street, at the corner of Newbury and Arlington Streets in Back Bay, first opened in 1927 as one of the first Ritz-Carlton hotels in the United States. In later years it operated as Taj Boston before closing for a multi-year restoration and reopening in May 2021 as The Newbury Boston under Highgate. Three celebrated design leads shaped the reimagined building: Alexandra Champalimaud designed the 286 guestrooms and 90 suites, including suites with wood-burning fireplaces; Jeffrey Beers restored the public spaces, the second-floor event rooms, and The Street Bar; and Ken Fulk designed the 17th-floor rooftop restaurant, Contessa.

What the light actually does here

Across the suites and the second-floor ballrooms, tall windows face east and south toward the Boston Public Garden and Arlington Street. In the morning and early afternoon, open sky over the park sends clean, directional window light into the getting-ready suites and across the Garden Room and Assembly Room floors. Just outside the doors, the footbridge, willow trees, and pathways of the Public Garden sit steps away for first looks and wedding party portraits, while Newbury Street and Commonwealth Avenue give the film classic Back Bay brownstone texture.

After dark, the mood shifts inward. In the Garden Room, the original 1927 cobalt-blue chandeliers and restored gold-leaf molding warm the ceiling, while in the Assembly Room, silver-leaf ceilings catch the pin-spots and candlelight above the dance floor.

The Assembly Room and the Garden Room

The hotel's event spaces span roughly 16,000 square feet, anchored by two connected second-floor ballrooms overlooking the Public Garden. The Assembly Room is the largest ballroom at 3,825 square feet (45 by 85 feet), dressed with green curtains and ornate carpet inspired by the flora of the Public Garden beneath a silver-leaf ceiling, and paired with the 2,683-square-foot Assembly Foyer for cocktail hour. According to the venue, the Assembly Room accommodates up to 400 guests for a reception and up to 220 to 260 guests for a seated dinner depending on the dance floor layout.

A walkway connects the Assembly Room directly to the 2,838-square-foot Garden Room (33 by 86 feet), the building's original 1927 main dining room, which holds up to 250 guests for a reception or up to 180 for a seated banquet. Many couples hold their ceremony in the Garden Room under the original cobalt-blue chandeliers and then walk guests straight through to the Assembly Foyer and Assembly Room for cocktails, dinner, and dancing.

Contessa, The Street Bar, and the intimate salons

Above the ballrooms, Contessa crowns the 17th floor: a 4,000-square-foot glass-enclosed rooftop restaurant operated by Major Food Group, with a retractable roof and 360-degree views across Back Bay and the Boston skyline. Downstairs off the Arlington Street entrance, The Street Bar brings back a 1920s speakeasy feel with leather barstools, dark wood, and a fireplace overlooking the Public Garden, right beside The Library, a quiet lounge reserved for hotel guests with books curated by the Boston Public Library. For rehearsal dinners, welcome drinks, and smaller celebrations, the hotel also offers the Newbury Salon (1,530 square feet), Hunt's Room (1,416 square feet), and the first-floor Ivy Room (1,178 square feet).

What makes filming a Newbury Boston wedding different

A wedding at The Newbury Boston moves seamlessly between the quiet residential feel of a Champalimaud suite, the open greenery of the Boston Public Garden across Arlington Street, and the second-floor walkway linking the Garden Room and the Assembly Room. A filmmaker visiting One Newbury Street for the first time has to figure out the timing of crossing to the Public Garden, the light change between the park and the silver-leaf ceiling inside, and how guests flow from the Garden Room ceremony into the Assembly Foyer. A team that already knows the building plans those transitions before the day begins, so you spend more time with your guests and less time waiting on cameras.

It is also a venue built for photography and cinema from a single studio. Soft window light in the suites and the Public Garden gives stills an editorial, natural look, while the chandeliers of the Garden Room and the energy of the Assembly Room give the wedding film its rhythm and depth. Having one team handle both photo and video means one shared timeline for Public Garden portraits, one quiet footprint during the ceremony, and a cohesive visual story from getting ready to the final dance.
